My Own Funktastic New Nightstand

So the reason for some new furniture for our bedroom is that we recently remodeled our master bath and we've been working on getting our bedroom into the 21st century.

I like things simple, not our old 1980's giant oak furniture.  It would be really fun to post a picture of it but I would also be terribly embarrassed by it too, so I'll spare you.  And me.

So when it was time to get myself a nightstand I knew exactly what I wanted but spent quite a while trying to find it.

Our updated bedroom is very neutral with a splash of my new favorite color.........

Turquoise!

Yes, my new nightstand is turquoise.

This was one of those rare times that I forgot to take a "before" picture so I'll just bless you with the final result.......

Ta-da!

I had to get my cool lamp in this picture.

I love it I love it I love it!

If you love it, just remember I can re-do something of yours you have hanging around for a new funky cool look.  Just sayin'.

The Awesome Man's New Nightstand

Do I need to remind everyone that my man does NOT like painted wood?

Man:  "Wood should be wood colored"
Me:  "Not when it's a pain in the ass"
Man:  "I really like the coffee table you did"
Me:  "That was a pain in the ass"
Man:  "I would consider that nightstand for myself if you refinished it"
Me:  "Uh-huh"

So I painted it.  OK, to be honest I really did try to refinish it.  Really.  But........
it was a PAIN IN THE ASS!

I found this at a thrift store quite a while ago and it was just sitting the garage.  I couldn't pass it up at the time I bought it because it was soooooo cheap, and such a sturdy, heavy, well constructed piece.

It also resembled the same components of the outdated furniture that was in our bedroom.  For instance:
3 drawers and a pull-out shelf where he would put his coffee every morning.  I figured if it funktioned the same as the old crap, he wouldn't even notice that I painted it.

Hee hee...........

See?  I mean it IS wood colored so to speak.
And the pull out coffee shelf.....

I'm totally happy with the way it turned out.  Not to rank on men or anything, but this nightstand could be purple and as long everything is in the same place as the old stuff, I don't think he'd notice.

Hee hee

My Sister's Birthday Present

Hello everyone.....I have been ridiculously lazy about posting, but I have not been lazy about projects.
There is only a few and they've been for myself and this next one is what I did for the "Best Sister in the World".

Val picked up this delightful buffet at a consignment store and asked if I would make it cool for her.
"Well of course I will!  But only if you'll let me do it as a birthday present."  (That's what I said to her)

Here it was......

She picked out a GORGEOUS rust color and I rubbed a dark walnut stain all over it to get an antiqued look, some awesome new hardware................

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Oh yeah!  I do good work I tell ya.

FunKsational Crackle Table

Hello everyone!  I know it's been a while and I won't bore you with why I haven't blogged in so long, but let's just say I've been busy.  (and maybe a bit lazy and unmotivated)

Instead of adding more funKy furniture to my garage, I thought it would be best to first re-vamp some pieces that were generating no interest what-so-ever.

Admittedly, this turquoise coffee table was not my favorite, but I thought it might appeal to someone with an eccentric artistic flare.

That didn't happen.

In comes Val (best sister ever) & (most trusted adviser) who suggests a crackle finish.

Oooooooooh yeah!

I got all of the materials I needed, went to work and, yes......I messed it up.

So it took me 2 1/2 days and a few quarts of stripper to get it back to raw table top.

Then I prevailed...........

I think it turned out super coolio.  Check out a close-up on that crackle.....

FunKy Sleek Little Vanity -- $ 200

First, let me start by saying, "Duh".  I was so anxious to get started on this little vanity that I forgot to take a "before" picture.  I found this at a thrift store the week before last and knew immediately how I wanted it to look.  I also had a certain little green chair that would be perfect for it.

Remember this...........?

So I got to work on it, but before I could finish I needed to seek the advice of "The Best Sister In The World" to make sure I was on track and how best to embellish on what I had already done.

I was right to do so, Thanks Val!

Here's how this beauty turned out.

I have a feeling this won't be in my possession for very long.  Out of the very few people who have seen this in person, my two boys are the ones who love it most.  Go figure.  Calvin even told me he would buy it.
Thanks boys!

It can be your today for a very reasonably priced $200

FunKy Shabby Chic Bookcase -- $50

My latest project is this cool little fold-able bookcase I found (in my sons room) and couldn't resist giving it a paint job.

And it folds up like this.......

See?

Being that it is fold-able, it made it easy to get a super chic paint job by taking the entire thing apart.

A few coats of Heirloom White and this bookcase looks like it belongs in a beach house.  (Mom, Calvin says it looks like it should go in your house)

I lightly distressed the entire piece and the sides have grainy inset panels that turned out very cool.

This can be yours today for only $50

Oh. My. Look at That Dresser -- $125

I really haven't been shopping for new items in a while, so that's when I start rearranging things in the house.  I pulled this dresser out of Spencer's room because it's basic funktion was Lego storage.

It seems that everyone loves the black pieces, or they love the white pieces.  Me?  I looooovvve the red ones.  Plus, I already had more than enough red paint.  And ya know what?  I don't think it could've turned out any better.

I'm pretty proud of myself (if you couldn't tell).

Of course I want to put it back in the house (duh) but instead I'll part with it for someone else to enjoy.

You know you want it.  It can be yours for only $125
