So the reason for some new furniture for our bedroom is that we recently remodeled our master bath and we've been working on getting our bedroom into the 21st century.
I like things simple, not our old 1980's giant oak furniture. It would be really fun to post a picture of it but I would also be terribly embarrassed by it too, so I'll spare you. And me.
So when it was time to get myself a nightstand I knew exactly what I wanted but spent quite a while trying to find it.
Our updated bedroom is very neutral with a splash of my new favorite color.........
Turquoise!
Yes, my new nightstand is turquoise.
This was one of those rare times that I forgot to take a "before" picture so I'll just bless you with the final result.......
Ta-da!
I had to get my cool lamp in this picture.
I love it I love it I love it!
If you love it, just remember I can re-do something of yours you have hanging around for a new funky cool look. Just sayin'.

The Awesome Man's New Nightstand
Do I need to remind everyone that my man does NOT like painted wood?
Man: "Wood should be wood colored"
Me: "Not when it's a pain in the ass"
Man: "I really like the coffee table you did"
Me: "That was a pain in the ass"
Man: "I would consider that nightstand for myself if you refinished it"
Me: "Uh-huh"
So I painted it. OK, to be honest I really did try to refinish it. Really. But........
it was a PAIN IN THE ASS!
I found this at a thrift store quite a while ago and it was just sitting the garage. I couldn't pass it up at the time I bought it because it was soooooo cheap, and such a sturdy, heavy, well constructed piece.
It also resembled the same components of the outdated furniture that was in our bedroom. For instance:
3 drawers and a pull-out shelf where he would put his coffee every morning. I figured if it funktioned the same as the old crap, he wouldn't even notice that I painted it.
Hee hee...........
See? I mean it IS wood colored so to speak.
And the pull out coffee shelf.....
I'm totally happy with the way it turned out. Not to rank on men or anything, but this nightstand could be purple and as long everything is in the same place as the old stuff, I don't think he'd notice.
Hee hee

My Sister's Birthday Present
Hello everyone.....I have been ridiculously lazy about posting, but I have not been lazy about projects.
There is only a few and they've been for myself and this next one is what I did for the "Best Sister in the World".
Val picked up this delightful buffet at a consignment store and asked if I would make it cool for her.
"Well of course I will! But only if you'll let me do it as a birthday present." (That's what I said to her)
Here it was......
She picked out a GORGEOUS rust color and I rubbed a dark walnut stain all over it to get an antiqued look, some awesome new hardware................
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Oh yeah! I do good work I tell ya.

FunKsational Crackle Table
Hello everyone! I know it's been a while and I won't bore you with why I haven't blogged in so long, but let's just say I've been busy. (and maybe a bit lazy and unmotivated)
Instead of adding more funKy furniture to my garage, I thought it would be best to first re-vamp some pieces that were generating no interest what-so-ever.
Admittedly, this turquoise coffee table was not my favorite, but I thought it might appeal to someone with an eccentric artistic flare.
That didn't happen.
In comes Val (best sister ever) & (most trusted adviser) who suggests a crackle finish.
Oooooooooh yeah!
I got all of the materials I needed, went to work and, yes......I messed it up.
So it took me 2 1/2 days and a few quarts of stripper to get it back to raw table top.
Then I prevailed...........
I think it turned out super coolio. Check out a close-up on that crackle.....

FunKy Sleek Little Vanity -- $ 200
First, let me start by saying, "Duh". I was so anxious to get started on this little vanity that I forgot to take a "before" picture. I found this at a thrift store the week before last and knew immediately how I wanted it to look. I also had a certain little green chair that would be perfect for it.
Remember this...........?
So I got to work on it, but before I could finish I needed to seek the advice of "The Best Sister In The World" to make sure I was on track and how best to embellish on what I had already done.
I was right to do so, Thanks Val!
Here's how this beauty turned out.
I have a feeling this won't be in my possession for very long. Out of the very few people who have seen this in person, my two boys are the ones who love it most. Go figure. Calvin even told me he would buy it.
Thanks boys!
It can be your today for a very reasonably priced $200

FunKy Shabby Chic Bookcase -- $50
My latest project is this cool little fold-able bookcase I found (in my sons room) and couldn't resist giving it a paint job.
And it folds up like this.......
See?
Being that it is fold-able, it made it easy to get a super chic paint job by taking the entire thing apart.
A few coats of Heirloom White and this bookcase looks like it belongs in a beach house. (Mom, Calvin says it looks like it should go in your house)
I lightly distressed the entire piece and the sides have grainy inset panels that turned out very cool.
This can be yours today for only $50

Oh. My. Look at That Dresser -- $125
I really haven't been shopping for new items in a while, so that's when I start rearranging things in the house. I pulled this dresser out of Spencer's room because it's basic funktion was Lego storage.
It seems that everyone loves the black pieces, or they love the white pieces. Me? I looooovvve the red ones. Plus, I already had more than enough red paint. And ya know what? I don't think it could've turned out any better.
I'm pretty proud of myself (if you couldn't tell).
Of course I want to put it back in the house (duh) but instead I'll part with it for someone else to enjoy.
You know you want it. It can be yours for only $125

Sheesh! It's About Time!
I know, I know......it's been too long and I hardly have anything to show for it.
One of my main reasons for being unproductive is the cold. Call me a wimp, but I'm not one of those people who walk around in shorts when it's 60 F. The only time I'm not wearing a sweater is when I shower, so working outside in the shade, when it's cold, doesn't do a thing for me.
But on the bright side I do have a finished photo of my man's dresser. Since it's not painted and it is "wood colored", he's happy. What more could I ask for?
Ta Da!

"Don't Mess With That Dresser, I've Had it Since I Was a Kid!"
Alright, now that I've been home from vacation, tied up all my loose ends, ran all of my errands and have everything back to normal, it's time I started on another project.
As the title of this next piece clearly states, I'm not allowed to defile this dresser. It's been in the garage since Hoover was President and it belonged to my Man when he was a boy. (You know, "The Man" who believes wood should be wood color.)
It is a nice piece of furniture and I've yet had a moment to haunt my usual hangouts for anything else. So I have my sander ready along with the 47 sheets of sandpaper it will take to get this finish off.
It's going to need some updated hardware also. Stay tuned and catch up next week to see the finished product.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

The FunKy Little Green Chair -- $ 45
This chair has been in my garage for a long time. I normally sit on it while I'm waiting for paint to dry, or to contemplate something that is really boggling me.
But it's a nice, sturdy little chair, so I thought, "why not paint it?"
I always try to incorporate left over materials from earlier projects, especially on one this small.
So I chose the leftover fabric from the black hutch............
.....and the "sage green" from "the sage green chest", which look marvelous together.........
Look how nice it turned out!
This would make a great desk chair and can be yours today for only $ 45

The FunKtionally FunKy Black Night Stand -- $ 85
This was a great thrift store find. "Lane" brand night stand. Very solid, but very much in need of turning funKy.
I knew I needed to have another black distressed piece in my collection, so I went about cleaning, prepping, priming and painting to get this latest funK-sational addition.
How cool is that? Would you like a close-up?
This can yours today for only $ 85

The Antique White Dinette -- $ 300
This dinette set belonged to me and was purchased some ten years ago. It has a solid wood top, as are the seat bottoms, with a wrought iron base.
It was definitely in need of re-vamping. I forgot to take a "before" picture so here is one from my archives. I think you can get the gist.
(My boys are much older now, look how cute they are)
My first intention was to go way funKy with this table, but when I went to buy paint I just couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. I also couldn't get the image I wanted out of my head. What did I do?
Begged my wonderful, best sister, to come over and help me. I dragged her to Home Depot and asked if she would pick out a color she envisioned for the dinette. My sister is THE QUEEN of decorating (you know you are, Val) so I knew she wouldn't steer me wrong.
It took alot of preparation and time to finish this (those pesky chair rungs) but I think I'll make Val proud.
Here's a look without all of the shadows.
The table too.
Take a closer look at how the joints are showing through.
Very "shabby chic", right?
This dinette has a diameter of 47 1/2" and a clear matte top coat for extra protection.
It can be yours today for only $ 300

The FunKy Vintage RED Chair -- $ 95
The instant I saw this chair I had to have it. I know for certain that it is "vintage" because once I removed the old fabric, I saw some very outdated materials that makes up it's construction. (iron springs, straw, etc.)
Here is what it looked like when it came home.
I knew instantly this chair WANTED to be red.
I picked up some gorgeous fabric that I think I need to put somewhere in my house, painted it red, added a little bit of trim and.........
Drum roll, please................
I. LOVE. THIS. CHAIR. (Probably because it's red, I know)

The Multi-Faceted Coffee Table
I picked up this cool coffee table at the same time as the Infamous Favorite White table. It was pretty beat up but I saw it's potential immediately.
It's potential to be MY coffee table.
I share the home of "The Man of My Dreams" and he is NOT funKy. He believes that wood should be wood colored. So, if I wanted this to be MY coffee table, I had to let him pick out the stain color and go through the arduous task of stripping this bad boy down.
The reason I call this "The Multi-Faceted Coffee Table" is after I spent a good part of my life getting this down to bare wood, I discovered it had many different types of wood, including veneer. This, of course, is the biggest reason why I choose to paint instead.
But since it was staying, I didn't mind. My honey chose a lighter walnut colored stain to match other pieces in the house and it is definitely one of my favorites.
A nice, beefy piece of furniture that you can put your feet on. Thank You, Me!

The Infamous Favorite White Table -- $ 195
OK Robert, here's your favorite table.
I think many of you will like this table. I'm not at all sure what exactly you would use it for, but I had to have it. This little guy is heavy and solid and was really sticky when I brought it home.
After many hours of cleaning off it's pink, sticky substance, I decided I would go for white. I know that white is what you normally see when something is referred to as "shabby chic", but I'm glad I did because this little table has been a hit.
I chose to base coat it in black, so when lightly distressed, you see the white, the black, and the original wood. I am very happy with the way it turned out.
Table for 2?
Let's have a closer look.......
This table stands at 29" high and has a diameter or 36". It's a perfect table for two, or maybe even a high end table. It can be yours today for only $ 195

The Sage Green Chest -- $ 225
This piece came home with me for an entirely different reason than being "For Sale" on this post. I thought it would make a great addition to the master bedroom. Well, I should mention that I wanted it added to the bedroom once all of the present 1980's era furniture was gone.
It's still there.
But I can dream.
Anyway, I bought this chest from one of my favorite haunts, The Shabby Shack, in Mesa. They always get new stuff in so you can easily go a few times a week. (I love you Shabby Shack!)
So I decided to put very little effort into this. I took my time masking off the hardware, and chose a subtle approach to FunKtionally FunKy.
"Vanna, show everyone the inside"
This baby sits at 16 1/4" high, is 51 1/2" wide and 24" deep. It can be yours today for only $ 225.

The Very Quirky Turquoise Coffee Table -- $185
Wait 'til you see what I did with this piece. I've had friends come over and take one look at this coffee table and love it. And there are those who hate it. I know that someone out there will want this in their home.
I picked this up at, (you guessed it) my usual favorite thrift store, but wasn't quite sure how I wanted it to look.
Believe it or not, my inspiration came from my 10 year old son, Spencer, who said, "Why not make it turquoise and silver!"
I thought, that's actually not a bad idea.
Well, once I completed the wood top, I spray painted the iron base silver, just like Spence told me to do, and it was hideous! I mean, HID- E- OUS. Yuck. (no offence, Spence. You thought so too)
So here is how it wound up.
Here's a different view.
It's slightly distressed and has a topcoat of polyurathane for protection. It's your standard coffee table height at 17" and measures 38" x 38". It can be yours today for $ 185.

FunKy Navy Blue Album / Magazine Holder -- $ 85
When I found this little guy at the thrift store, I thought I was going to have to wrestle an old man over it. I think I could've taken him, but it turned out I didn't have to, thank goodness.
I had made up my truly funKtionally funKy mind that I was going all-out blue with this piece. "Who would want a blue piece of furniture?" you ask? Those of you who are Quirky-at-Heart, that's who.
I busted this one out in only a few hours. I think it took me longer to tape everything off than to make it navy blue distressed.
Check it out:
Look inside...........it's an album holder...........
It's a magazine holder..............
It's FunK-sational!!!
