I found this next piece at one of my favorite thrift stores. There was a matching sidekick nearby but it was in rough shape, so I chose to take only one home with me. It was very homely, but rock-solid.
I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do with this one at first, so I started out by sanding all of the varnish and stain off of the top to check out what was underneath. Amazingly enough, the wood grain was gorgeous! So I spent about 6 hours getting this beauty bare.
Hickory?? Ash?? No clue. But it's solid wood. Pretty, eh?
Now that I was ready for stain, I thought, "Stain is not that funKy...........or is it?" I decided to stain the drawers a different color than the body, and here is the result.......
